HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY SWEET HUSBAND!!

Today is my BEST FRIENDS birthday!

I have such an amazing husband!

Almost 17 years ago we met in Las Vegas at Tower Records (of course) anyone who knows John, knows that he is a musical connoisseur, he likes pretty much any kind of music and has quite a compilation of them stored on his computer which he adds to constantly. (I love that about him). When we first met he was such an 80's boy, (just look at that picture!) I have to say that 17 years later, that 80's boy is still alive and well within him! (I try my best to tame it, but I love him still the same).

John was born and raised in Southern California, and then moved to Boulder City, Nevada when he was a teen. He went to Boulder City High School and then when he graduated he went to work for his parents at their computer store, delivering computers. Some of those clients included inmates in a local prison. He also delivered to a local Civil Engineering firm who's owner eventually offered John a job at his company. John went to work for him and that was the beginning of his career in Civil Engineering. This company is the same place that John met his friend Vince, they worked together on many projects and then decided to start a company together here in Reno. Which is how we ended up moving here in 1993.

Some things about him that I absolutely love:

1. He is the most loyal person I know. He is definitely true to his word, if he says something it's a sure thing and he follows through. I have seen this in our relationship, as a father, in his work as well as in his church callings. He is also the most dependable and trustworthy person I know.

2. He gets along with just about anyone. John has such a great sense of humor and makes new friends very easily. I joke with him a lot because many times he'll meet someone at a store and strike up a conversation, then from then on he'll say "my friend so and so down at ..." I laugh and say "friend?, you barely know them". But that's how he truly feels, a friend to him is just about anyone, even if he just met you and talked to you for less then 2 minutes.

3. He's a family man! We love spending time together and we all look forward to when dad comes home from work. Often times when he gets home he spends the first hour, rough housing with the kids, they love it!

4. He's supportive. I feel very fortunate for this attribute. He always helps me out at home, either with the dishes, cleaning up or just helping out with the kids. He's changed many a diaper the past year and has even tackled getting all three kids ready for church in the morning all by his self when I've been away at my church meetings on Sundays. When I've had my bad days, or have just had enough, he is the first to say just relax, take a bath or some time to yourself.

5. He's a very hard worker. I feel so fortunate that he has provided for our family in order for me to be home with our kids. He loves his work (which is also a great blessing) and works hard to provide for our family. He works hard at home as well, our entire backyard was done by John. He installed the sprinkler systems (with dad's help) which was not an easy chore, they even broke the rototiller in the process because the ground was so hard and rocky. He built the brick lined garden planter, planted over 30 trees in our yard and has built numerous things for our home inside as well. Recently, due to some HOA issues, he even took out part of our concrete driveway by himself and hauled the remains off to the dump, all done on the day of his birthday! (now if that's not a hard worker, I don't know what is).

6. He has a very sensitive side as well, he's so caring and loving, and most of the time a little too sappy, but after 16 years I think I'm finally getting use to it.

7. His voice - I love his voice, I remember many times at night he would be telling me how much he loved me and just the sound of his voice would put me right to sleep. There has always been something so comforting in the way he speaks to me.

8. He makes me feel safe. I know this probably sounds weird, but I know with him by my side we can tackle pretty much anything, this is something we both know, we're a team and we are in this together.

9. He's health minded, ever since we have been married John has been into some sort of physical activity, whether it be mountain biking, roller blading, going to the gym or ju jitsu (grappling). He loves staying in shape and eating right. Although, I don't really enjoy working out too much, I love cooking and eating healthy and he's all for it. Which leads to the next thing, he's not a picky eater! I love that! I can put pretty much anything in front of him and he'll try it.

10. his testimony. I knew John before he was a member and the difference that the gospel has made in his life is so apparent. He absolutely loves his calling as Gospel Doctrine teacher and does an excellent job at it. He has such a strong testimony of the gospel and is not afraid to share it. What a great example he has been for Jaidyn who now bears hear testimony regularly in church.

I could go on and on. I feel so blessed to have him in my life. What a wonderful husband, friend and father he is. My very tall, dark, handsome husband and best friend! I love you so very much. I hope you have a wonderful birthday, and don't worry I won't tell everyone how old you are, but I did notice a few more gray hairs today! (how distinguished!!)

Wow. This is the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me. You're right, we are a team, and I honestly feel that there is nothing that can come our way that we can't handle. I love you sweetheart. Thank you for spending my birthday with me.

And by the way, those aren't gray hairs. It was probably concrete dust or something.
