So here I sit at 2 a.m. in the morning. I've been sick all day with the stinkin' stomach flu and I can't seem to go to sleep. So while my tummy rumbles and grumbles and I gulp down pepto, I figured I'd take this time to post some updates.
I've been wanting to post sooner but just before Christmas my computer decided to quit working, so John and I have resorted to sharing his laptop. Other than not being able to post as much as I'd like it's actually been really nice, I was finding myself consumed for hours on my laptop and now since I don't have one of my own I'm amazed at how much extra time I have found.
Anyway, here's a recap of our holidays and New Year.
A few days after Christmas we went to stay with my grandparents in Southern Nevada. It was so nice to see and visit with the family. I love seeing everyone and especially spending time with Grandma and Grandpa. This year was a little harder for them because Rodger wasn't here with them and grandma's eye sight is getting much worse so she's not able to see things like she use to. So we spent a week at their house. A few days later my Aunt Kris and her family came, and then on New Years day mom and dad drove down. We spent New years at Grandma and Grandpa's. I made Fettuccine alfredo with garlic bread and salad. We had lots of goodies to eat while we played Rock Band and chatted. It was fun being together, just like old times.
We drove back home on Sunday. It was so nice to be back home in our own beds! aaahh..
However, our dogs were very angry at us for leaving them. We had some good friends take care of them (thanks Julie and Aaron) while we were away, but our crazy dogs completely got out of control! It took some hard work (to say the least) to get things back to normal around our house.
We had court on Thursday, this was for Lana (the baby). John and I both went with the thought that nothing spectacular was going to happen and we were right! The Judge basically told Lana's mom that she needed to take things more seriously, that time was not on her side anymore and that the Judge has caught her lying and making up stories, then she said so we'll set a court date for 6 months! 6 months! John and I just looked at each other, 6 more months, huh? It's insane how many chances these people are getting. So we were right, nothing really spectacular happened. However, the Judge looked at me and mouthed "how are you?" I was a little caught off guard and said "fine" then as we were heading out of the court room she said "so Mr. and Mrs. MacDonald it's been a long time, what 5 years?" We laughed, said "yeah" and then walked out of the court room, saying "what just happened?" We couldn't figure out where she knew us from. Then as we were sitting in the waiting area, it came to us, the Judge use to be our neighbor. How weird is that? So we went back into the courtroom and talked to her for awhile to let her know that we finally figured it out and we remembered her as well. What a small town we live in!
We have court again in 2 weeks for Luis and Luhani, once again we're not expecting anything spectacular.
Some sort of bad news we received this week. I took Luis in for his evaluations and hearing testing. A pediatrician (who happens to be the leading Dr. to early diagnose FAS Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, in children) checked Luis and said he was doing great, however she was concerned about a few things and wants him to go to a geneticist to make sure he doesn't have some disabilities and if that wasn't troublesome enough, she diagnosed Luhani with FAS, there are some things facially that help with diagnosing FAS in children and Luhani apparently has them. She proceeded to tell me all these horrible awful things that can happen with her, throughout her life. She scheduled an appointment for Luhani to come in for a full evaluation this coming Friday. Although a lot of children have been born with FAS, especially in fostercare, it really scares me and mostly saddens me to think of what Luhani has in her future. But mostly I was so mad at their mom and how she could do this to her own children. I really wish they could have tied her tubes when she had Lana, I fear that she'll bring another child into this world and each time they seem to have more and more problems because the courts don't do anything to stop her and she just keeps getting away with it.
So looking back at my last couple of weeks, I guess this is probably the reason why I am now sick! It's amazing at what stress can do. However, we did have a fun night on Saturday, we got together a few friends from our ward (thanks Heidi) and even met a few new families in our ward. Thanks mom and dad for giving us a little break and babysitting for us.
I have to say one more thing, my husband is awesome! He has helped me this week more than ever, he is such a strong support system to me. Thanks babe, for all your help! I love you.
