Tuesday- no gas, smelly soup, hair on fire day
So Tuesday comes along and it started just like a normal day. I began by cleaning the house and getting ready for our Enrichment night that was going to be at our home. We were having a "Soup & Dessert Exchange Night". Jaidyn came home from school and then I dropped her off at her singing lessons for a 1/2 hour. I picked up my mom and we went to run a few errands. On the way back to pick up Jaidyn, I was driving on the freeway and my car completely dies. The gas gauge was going crazy and I figured it had probably ran out of gas. I think this must be a Chevy thing but when the gas gets low instead of it showing empty it goes all the way up to full and then back down to low, so we try and keep the tank full at all times just to be safe. Anyway, I managed to coast the Suburban down the nearest off ramp and to the side of the road where we sat. I called AAA and of course it was going to take them about 20 minutes to send someone out. So we called dad, he picked up Jaidyn at her lessons and then brought us some gas. In the meantime we sat for about 15 minutes with 2 screaming kids that were very unhappy that we weren't moving and they were stuck in their carseats. After the running out of gas episode was taken care of, we stopped at Whole Foods to purchase the ingredients I needed for the Soup I was going to make. A really yummy Coconut Chicken soup. I needed to get some canned mushrooms as well as a few other items. Whole foods did not have canned mushrooms, so I thought okay, I guess I'll just use fresh. I asked the nearest produce manager what the best mushrooms would be and he led me to a carton of wild mushrooms. I purchased my items and then headed home in a hurry to get my soup started before everyone started showing up for Enrichment at my home. I began making the soup, adding my mushrooms last as the recipe had stated. That's when it all went downhill from there! I kept smelling this horrible smell, it smelled something like dirty socks a real distinct sour smell, it was really horrid. Was that coming from my soup? As I leaned over to take a sniff. I heard this sizzling noise and was wondering what it was then I saw smoke, I looked to the right of my shoulder and saw flames coming from my hair. Yikes! My hair had apparently caught on fire. I immediately took my hand and started hitting my hair and head to put the fire out. I turned around and very calmly said to my friend and 1st Counselor Kjersti, my hair just caught on fire. She said "what?" I said "yeah, look" I held up my hands which were covered in hair that had been singed from my head. She came over and couldn't believe what she saw my ends were fried and it smelled like a perm in my house now. I tucked the hairs behind my ear and proceeded to make the rest of my "stinky" soup (that's what every woman should do right? In the event of trials or tribulations we carry on..) The Relief Society Sisters begin showing up. I had kind of come to the realization that maybe I should just throw the soup away, then Kjersti came up to me and quietly said "we're missing pots of soup" we only have 3 pots is that going to be enough? So I couldn't possibly tell her now that I was going to throw my soup away, so now we're down to 2. I ran into my lifesaver (John) who happened to be in the other room entertaining the kids and said "my soup stinks! Help, what should I do?" He began to laugh and said "I don't know", a lot of help he was. So I thought well maybe nobody will notice, maybe they'll think it's the other soups that smell. I placed the soup in a really large nice serving bowl, in the center so as to be masked by the other 2 soups smells. We had a blessing and then the sisters lined up to get their soup of choice. I saw one of the sisters who prepared one of the other 2 wonderful soups walk up to her soup, stir it a little and then sniff it, then shake her head yes, as if to say "okay, good that's not my soup that stinks" I felt horrible. My soup actually did get eaten though and there were even a few recipe cards that were taken. I just wanted to announce so badly to everyone that this soup really is very delicious it's just that the mushrooms ruined it and it definitely didn't help that it smelled like stinky sour smelly socks and a perm in my house. During the Enrichment activity we tied a quilt for the humanitarian efforts. I tried to get my mind off the smelly soup by going and joining the sisters in helping them tie off the quilt. I very carefully placed the needle with yarn through the quilt top, batting and quilt bottom and tried to pull it through the bottom side. As I did the needle slipped and I sliced my finger. I couldn't seem to stop the bleeding and applied some pressure for quite some time until I was able to bandage it. The evening ended around 9 p.m. My mom needed me to drive her back home so she stayed until everyone left and then said "what was that awful smell?" I told her about the soup incident and we laughed. What else could I do at this point. I learned some pretty valuable lessons tonight. It was quite an eventful day that will go down in the MacDonald family history as the "no gas, smelly soup, hair on fire day!" Another crazy day at the MacDonald household.

I never smelled anything bad in your house that night!!! Not even burnt hair... and pregnancy noses are supposed to be supper sensitive. I don't know?
Your soup was fabulous! Tasted exactly like it should! I can't wait to make it for Steve! I've been wanting a recipe for this for a while so we can enjoy one of favorite soups at home instead of having to go out! Thanks!
